Tulja Buddha caves Junnar Emperor Ashok built 84000 stupas on the sacred relics of Buddha; The caves were carved. The first caves were carved at Barabar in Bihar. Junnar is a city where great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born On the Shivneri fort, near the hill of Kadelota, there is a village called Thakarwadi, and at the end of that village you can see the beautiful carved tulaja caves. The largest number of caves in India are in Junnar taluka. The feature of the Tulja caves is that these caves should be the first cave in Maharashtra. History scholars believe that these caves were sculptured during Emperor Ashoka's era. The stupa in the caves is not found in other places.
